Auditions set for Alikabok Musical
September 09, 2026
Before the curtain rises on Alikabok in August 2027, the musical’s next chapter begins in the audition room. Newport World Resorts, in association with Full House Theater Company (FHTC) and Culturtain Musicat Productions, is searching for versatile performers to join the cast of Alikabok, the original Filipino musical featuring music by National Artist Ryan Cayabyab.
Song and Dance Open Calls will be held on September 14 and 15, 2026, from 10:30 AM to 7 PM at the Executive Meeting Rooms 1 and 3 of the Marriott Grand Ballroom, Manila Marriott Hotel at Newport World Resorts. On-site sign-in opens at 9:30 AM, and pre-registered applicants will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis.
The production is looking for performers who are at least 16 years old, of any gender, and able to sing, dance, and act. Applicants must pre-register through bit.ly/Alikabok-Auditions or scan the QR code and choose either September 14 or 15 as their preferred open-call date. Those who will be selected must be available for the Dance and Reading Call on September 16, from 10:30 AM to 7 PM at the Garden Rooms 2 and 3 of the Manila Marriott Hotel at Newport World Resorts.
For the vocal audition, performers must prepare 32 bars from any song featured in Alikabok, available on Spotify (https://bit.ly/Alikabok-Cast-Recording), to be sung a cappella. Each applicant must also bring a printed resume with their most recent headshot and full-body photograph, comfortable clothing and footwear suitable for movement, and a calendar to note the rehearsal period.
Alikabok returns more than 30 years after the original Filipino musical was first staged. It features music by National Artist Ryan Cayabyab and draws inspiration from Juan Luna’s painting, La Bulaqueña. The new production opens in August 2027 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater.
A reworking of the original 1997 production, Alikabok is the fictional tale of Visitacion “Bising” Vallejo, a beautiful young heiress from the 1800s, based on Luna’s La Bulaqueña. She falls in love on the eve of the revolution, and like so many women of the time, joins the Katipunan to fight for her country.
Told through the eyes of her Fil-Am descendant Asia, Bising’s story unfolds as Asia discovers her letters throughout the ancestral Vallejo home. Piece by piece, Asia slowly puts together the legacy of her family, her home, and her country. But time is running out, as her mother Anna wants to sever her last tie to the Philippines by selling the Vallejo home, and Asia desperately races to complete Bising’s story before it is lost forever.

About Full House Theater Company:
Full House Theater Company (FHTC) has established itself as a leading theatre organization dedicated to nurturing Filipino talent and enriching the local performing arts scene. FHTC is the in-house production arm of Travellers Group, owner and operator of Newport World Resorts and Westside Resort. It develops and presents theatrical productions and live entertainment for the Newport Performing Arts Theater and other venues. By producing world-class theatrical performances, FHTC highlights the skills of Filipino actors and production experts, fostering a vibrant community dedicated to the arts.
When Newport World Resorts opened in 2009 as the first integrated resort in the Philippines, one of its biggest attractions was the Newport Performing Arts Theater–an expansive entertainment space with an award-winning design. Making use of this world-class space, the company staged KAOS in 2010, an over-the-top special production that featured theater artists, dancers, acrobats, death-defying stunts and an actual white lion and white tiger. Since then, Newport World Resorts has been staging musicals at its theater every year, making it a household name among musical theater fans and live entertainment aficionados.
Inspired by its success, Travellers Group established Full House Theater Company in 2014, as it entered into the business of staging original musicals. Its first production was Bituing Walang Ningning, an adaptation of a popular Filipino movie based on an equally popular comics serial.
Within its first year, FHTC joined the country’s sole organization of professional performing arts companies, PHILSTAGE. Since then, it has remained steadfast in its commitment to uplifting the performing arts industry in the country. By nurturing a new generation of theater audiences and utilizing the best talents in staging world-class productions in an award-winning venue, FHTC significantly contributes to today’s local performing arts.
